{"id":1205,"date":"2011-03-03T17:32:28","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T17:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.news.clicdublin.ie\/?p=1205"},"modified":"2011-03-03T17:32:28","modified_gmt":"2011-03-03T17:32:28","slug":"instant-allergy-test-96-accurate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpressdemo.eu\/?p=1205","title":{"rendered":"Instant allergy test &#8216;96% accurate&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors can now find out if children have food allergies in a matter of seconds thanks to new research carried out by University College Cork.<\/p>\n<p>An online calculator for doctors has been developed, which can predict the presence of the three most common food allergies.<\/p>\n<p>The new device is reported to be 96% accurate, according to research published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe calculator should replace uncertainty for many doctors treating children with food allergies,\u201d said Kevin Dalton of UCC\u2019s Office of Technology Transfer.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clicnews.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/LH0321_ALLERGY-TESTS_1_SL_03-21-10_UDHOBV8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1207\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clicnews.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/LH0321_ALLERGY-TESTS_1_SL_03-21-10_UDHOBV8-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cork researchers, Dr Audrey Dunn Galvin and Professor Jonathan Hourihane of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, devised highly accurate allergen-specific algorithims for each of the most important food types \u2014 cow\u2019s milk, egg and peanut.<\/p>\n<p>Observing the outcomes of data on different factors, including a skin prick test, blood tests, allergic reaction history, gender and age, researchers were able to develop an accurate prediction model.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors can now find out if children have food allergies in a matter of seconds thanks to new research carried out by University College Cork.
