Enda Kenny has been elected the 13th Taoiseach of Ireland.
Mr Kenny received a round of applause and was congratulated from members of the packed Dáil and guests.
Dáil colleagues including Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, who also paid special tribute to Mr Kenny’s wife Fionnuala.
Standing to speak for the first time as Taoiseach, Mr Kenny thanked the deputies for his nomination.
Making his acceptance speech Mr Kenny said: “The people and their Government are one again.”
“In this current crisis, still full of unknowns, honest is not just the best policy – it is our only policy,” Mr Kenny added.
Mr Kenny travelled to Aras an Uachtaráin with his cabinet politicians,in a minibus, to receive their seals of office from President Mary McAleese.
Frances Fitzgerald is the new Minister for Children and Ruairi Quinn is the new minister for Education and Skills.
